Happy 18th Hamish

Happy happy birthday Hamish. I am a little bit stunned that you are 18 today. I know you get sick of the stories......10 years ago today or 15 years ago today.........but 18 years ago today you were the baby that had longed and fought for and that survived and entered our lives. I wanted to call you Jacob Alan Douglas but Dad wanted Hamish Robert and honestly I was so tired that I really didn’t care. And now I love your name. Can’t imagine you as anything else.

You were such a sweet, gentle baby and toddler. Quiet, happy, easy going. Dopey. Adorable. People would stop us to tell us how gorgeous you were, cos you were. You loved Bailey even though he annoyed the heck out of you. He loved you very very hard.

I remember waking up one night to feed you and flicking on the telly but something was wrong with it. Every single channel showed a plane smashing into a building. I kept flicking the channel but it was the same picture. That’s right it was 9/11 and you and I watched as the second plane smashed as well on live tv. I remember feeling so horrified and looking down at your sweet innocent face and wondering what the world was doing.

You loved being called Mooey but when you started school told me that you were grown up now and needed a change. I asked what you had in mind and you said we could call you Moo now.

I still call you Mooey, guess that’s what you’ll always  be to me. Even if you are 6”4 and stand above all of us in the family. Driving to Nanny’s house one day when you were about 4 I asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up. A sumo wrestler you replied. So seriously.

I love the memory of you quitting kindy as you had decided to become a top model and there was lots of money in that so you wouldn’t need school. That one took you a bit of convincing out of .

I am proud of the person you are becoming. I love that I can trust you and that you mostly make good decisions. I love that you are a good friend and know how to keep a persons confidence. Sure you are moody and irritable sometimes, but who isn’t. Sure you don’t always move as fast as I would like, or wear as much deodorant as I would choose or keep your room clean. You are kind, generous, honest, funny and thoughtful and I am so glad God chose to give you to us.

You don’t have a great interest in God at the moment but I know you know him and I pray that you will develope and grow your faith as you mature. God has had his hand on you your whole life and that brings me peace. Love you Mooey. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

New Year. New School!

I can’t believe it is 2018 already. Our seventh year in Bunbury, WA. So much change for our little family, all growing up. Charli, Cate and Hamish started a new School and so far (3 days in) are enjoying it.  Very different to their private Christian school. Lots of things to get used to. But lots of exciting interesting opportunities too.

Charli started year seven. Her first year of high school. She is loving changing classes every hour and her new teachers. She is slowly making friends and getting used to the public system.

Cate is in Year Nine. Her electives are drama, cooking and recreational sport. She is the one that most needed a fresh start and I pray that this will be that for her.

Hamish is Year 11 which I can not believe. He is in the VET program. Maths, English, Careers and Enterprise. Cert 2 in Sport and Rec and Cert 2 in automotive as well as Cert 2 in tyres, balancing etc. (not the correct title, brain has gone blank). He thinks he may like to be a mechanic so this will be a good taster for him. He is also doing regular shifts at Hungry Jacks and saving up hard for a car.

Bay turns 21 in August. He has been slower in figuring out what he wants to do. He has been doing odd jobs, gardening, djing, sound work etc. He is thinking about going down to Tassie in May and staying with his uncle. Clearing his head, enjoying the country air and hopefully finding work and a direction to head in.

James is pastor of the church we attend. Between 75-100 people attend. This keeps him busy. Meetings, plans, sermons, people all needing something. He loves it.

I hope this is a good year for us. Last year sucked. Looking forward to seeing what God has in store for us.

Time flies

Wow. I haven't looked at my blog for ages. One of my last posts was of the Royal wedding and now there is a new little Prince George.
Catherine Duchess of Cambridge gives birth to a baby boy, London, Britain - 23 Jul 2013

And Kate coming out at the hospital was just beautiful. She looked glowing and happy and sooo normal. Refreshing for all new mums out there to enjoy the whole process.

The Royal Wedding

So we have a new princess or Duchess. She looked stunning. I am so pleased for her.
Wasn't this a lovely dress?  At first I was disappointed but it grew on me.
I love that Will told her she looked beautiful straight away and that he joked with her father that he had expected just a small family affair.
Beautiful Service. The choir was lovely. I loved the song This is the Day. Very very much.

So it is over.  Or it is just beginning.  Charli and I snuggled up on the couch together and oohed and ahhed and groaned over the hats. Some were gorgeous and some were...... questionable.  Julia Gillard our PM looked lovely. I just hope that she didn't talk to anyone as her accent is atrocious. It was all so organised. The Royal Family know how to do things.
I hope for Kate that she is treated well by The Firm.  That her and Will have a long happy marriage.  May they not turn out like Charles and Diana.

When I grow up.........................

Charli and I are so impressed with this that we are practising our own act. I will be standing on Charli's head. Please pray for Charli.

What an amazing woman.

Below is a story about an Amazing woman. I often marvel at these people and wonder if faced with the same conditions if I could do what they did.

Irena Sendler 1910-2008
A 98 year-old German woman named Irena Sendler recently died. During WWII, Irena worked in the Warsaw Ghetto as a plumbing/sewer specialist. Irena smuggled Jewish children out; infants in the bottom of the tool box she carried and older children in a burlap sack she carried in the back of her truck. She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers wanted nothing to do with the dog, and the barking covered the kids’ and infants’ noises. Irena managed to smuggle out and save 2500 children. She eventually was caught, and the Nazis broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely. Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar buried under a tree in her backyard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and reunited some of the families. Most had been killed. She helped those children get placement into foster family homes or adopted. Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize. She was not selected. Al Gore won- for a slide show on Global Warming.

Family fun on my birthday

My family happened to be around when it was my birthday last year in December. I had to work so I didn't think I was going to have a lot of fun.  I was wrong.  There were 11 kids (under 18) in the house and 5 adults.  We had takeway. Cake. Drinks. And lots and lots of laughs. It was so much fun, seeing all my neices and nephews, being amazed at how much they had grown up and what great great people they are. We loved meeting Maggie, she fit right in. Lots of cuddles and kisses and photos. At times I felt like Princess Diana LOL. I am sure I instigated most of it. It was such a fun fun night.

Dear 14 year old Naomi

I just saw a prompt on a journaling group that said think back to when you were 14 years old.  What advice would you have for yourself knowing what you know now?

(You were really 21 here but thats ok you kind of get the idea of what you looked like)
Dear 14 year old Naomi,
Hello it is much older Naomi here.  I don't know that I have much wisdom to pass on to you. I can barely remember you but I have a haze of memory that seems to linger around you.  I know that you yearn for things. A perfect family. A boyfriend. A deeper faith in God.  You are imaginative and creative but way too sensitive. You need to toughen up and not take things so personally.  Think about others, the world doesn't revolve around you no matter how much you want it too.

Be kinder. Think more before you speak or act.  Consider others. Don't worry so much about what others think and just be you. You are NOT FAT. NOT UGLY. Believe me that is to come. For now you are gorgeous if only you knew it.  Raise your expectactions for yourself and lower them for others. Others will never be able to give you what you need - only God can fill that hole. I am still learning that now too. Push yourself harder at things. You coast along on natural talent when you could be really really great if you put your head to it.
Don't press your insecurities onto others. Allow others around you to make mistakes as well and forgive them when they do just as you want to be forgiven. Laugh, enjoy, be spontaneous, have fun. Don't worry about boys and all that stuff. You have the rest of your life to pay bills, and worry about things. Be carefree. Live for God. All the rest falls into place if you do this.  He has a plan for your life. It isn't the plan you have made in your head and that is OK.  His plan is the best one.  Enjoy the friends you have because believe it or not in  a decade you will know less than 10 percent of them and a decade after that you will know even less of them.  Extend yourself. Reach out to the ones that you naturally reject as not pretty enough, popular or funny.  Everyone has something to offer and your life experience will be richer for stepping out of your comfort zone.
Nothing in your life will be as you expect and thats ok because yes you are imaginative but God is amazing and he way exceeds your biggest dreams.
Love your older self.
Naomi

I was thinking

Last night I was lying in bed telling God how tired, stressed and anxious I have been feeling lately.  Mathew 11:28-29 came to mind

"28 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
I was thinking about the yoke part and thinking why would I want to put your yoke on? It would just tie me in and make me feel even more burdened.  But as Gods voice gently whispered to me I realised that  taking on His yoke wouldn't be tying me in but giving me boundaries, keep me on track and most importantly my hands would be off the reins. God would be steering. And that would have to relieve some stress right?  Not to be steering all the time.

I thought about how my anxiety levels were high and realised that of course they were. Steering your own yoke and wearing it at the same time is quite challenging. But allowing God to steer would take me in the direction He planned for me.There would be far less stress and anxiety going His way for sure. His word tells me gentle and humble and that just sounds so good to me right now.

So its hand off the reins, relaxing into the rhythm God plans for my life and leaving the stress, tiredness and anxiety behind.

I was searching for pictures of yokes to put with this and realised that there are single and double yokes. I kind of like the thought of sharing a double yoke with Jesus. To think that he is saying Here I will carry your burden and mine too. What a great God we serve.

These thoughts have been very much off the cuff, I am going to have to look deeper into this I think.

PS I just found this on this website and it stirred my heart as it is how I felt last night lying in bed.

In the hour of my distress

When temptations me oppress,

And when I my sins confess,

Sweet Spirit, comfort me!

When I lie within my bed,

Sick in heart and sick in head,

And with doubts discomforted,

Sweet Spirit, comfort me!

When the house doth sigh and weep,

And the world is drown’d with sleep

Yet mine eyes the watch do keep,

Sweet Spirit, comfort me!

Masterpieces from Paris.

This weeked my mum, sister and I went down to Canberra to see the Masterpieces from Paris exhibition at the National Art Gallery. It was amazing. I didn't love all of it. In fact some of it bored me alot. But it was thrilling to be able to see real live Picasso's and real live Monets, Van Goughs and all the rest.  This bloke called Félix VALLOTTON was one artist that I enjoyed most of his work. This one picture enthralled me. Not sure why. I wondered who the little girl was and the ladies in the distance. It had a kind of menacing feel to it and really captured my imagination. But then my sister looked at it and found it light and sunny and happy. I guess thats why art is interpretive. In real life the brush strokes were incredible, he had a fantastic style.

Starry Night by Monet was wonderful. Although my mum did tell a few people that she was dissapointed in this one. LOL. Just so gorgeous in real life.
This was my sister and mums favourite one. I liked it too.  The further back you stood the more amazing it was.
But I chose this as my all time fave, I don't know why I just love it. So peaceful and calm and reflective and serene. Makes me want to paint thats for sure.

Professor Charli

Just how cute is this photo?  I love it so much.  This is the new reformed Charli with the short hairdo. Yes she gave herself a haircut. One side only, the hairdresser did the other.

I have had a few health challenges this year but just received the all clear so can relax, start living, breathing and blogging. Looking forward to catching up with you all.
Church came this weekend. Will let you know all about it next week.

{Anthropologie}

So I went and checked out this shop called Anthropologie that I hear everyone talking about and while the cost was prohibitive I found lots of things that I love that maybe I could replicate.  Let me share some with you.

This one is my fave for sure. I am going to check out some op shops and see  if I can make this. I LOVE it.

So so girly and elegant another fave.

I love the color of this one.
I think these hooks would be so cute in the kids rooms to hang their hats on. I know I could make these for much cheaper.

Now I love these headbands and know that I could make these. So so sweet.

The idea of heads on the wall doesn't apeal to me a lot but the fact that this one is made out of newspaper is cute and I think Mooey would love one of these in his room.

My mum would love these in her garden.  If I had a garden I would too LOL.

I adore this tea set and I am looking for a pattern to make one for my girls, I just know they would love playing tea parties with it. There has to be a pattern out there right?  If you know of one please let me know.

Too cute. I couldn't replicate it but I am sure I could come up with stuff from around the house and make my own cute robot.

Which little girl wouldn't like one of these?
We don't have this shop in Australia, not such a bad thing as I am sure I couldn't afford to buy anything from the shop anyway but it is nice to look at and get good ideas.
I am back to work on Monday. Back to normal life. Woohoo. NOT.
